Asia
Asia is where we live (at the time we started this website, mid 2026).
Living in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia is a privilege. Not only is it a truly great city, but it is a short flight to an amazing list of destinations.
Air quality is one of the best of Asian capital cities – in part because the population is still “only” around 6 million people- which is about a third of Jakarta, Bangkok or Manilla. The infrastructure (urban trains, flyovers, good roads – particularly so many elevated roads is the best in the region.
This foodie haven! Not just the Indian, Chinese and Malay food to be expected, but Greek, Greek, Italian, Thai…….and some truly amazing Fusions.
We love that we can see green mountains in the distance from our condo on one side yet be a 9 minute walk from Surya KLCC on the other side! We also love that we can drive for half an hour and be in a river in a jungle! Getting around is easy with the MRT & LRT, but when that does not take us where we want, the Grab App works well 99% of the time….and at reasonable rates!
For music, we keep going back to BOBO KL for a reason – they are an amazing venue. We have heard great music there so many times – not just from their band Terrakuchas – but an impressive line-up of new and old performers. And for the full-sized, full-sound experience, the philharmonic orchestra of KLCC, known as Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, is truly world-class.
Malay language is known as Bahasa. It’s much the same as Indonesian language, and combined together they make up the 6th largest language group in the world. It may be the easiest language to learn basics in, and makes the complex conjugations of European languages seem so very unnecessary! Kuala Lumpur (translates from “river muddy”), from the days of tin-mining up to around a century ago. From a group of tin-mining villages to one of the most iconic skylines in the world – amazing!
