“Malaysia truly Asia” was a slogan for a successful tourism department campaign to encourage foreign visitors. It worked – in part because it’s kinda true! There is a wealth of ethnic diversity that for the most part works peacefully and respectfully…..particularly in the state of Sarawak.

Transport is very good around Klang Valley (Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Ampang, Cheras, Subang …..out to Klang). Trains are ok from KL to Singapore and to Penang. Prices are reasonable.

The event we are waiting for now (August 2026) is the opening of the new Kl to east-coast line.

Diving

There is a dive-site called Sipadan, off the coast of Sabah, one of the two Malaysian states on the amazing island of Borne. It’s considered the best dive site in the world. Very close to it is Mabul Island. Also stunning.
