Indonesia

It’s far more than Bali!
Indonesia was given its current name by an Englishman simply because it was part way between India and Australia. We prefer its original name Nusantara…but whatever!
This melting-pot of Indian, Javanese, Dutch and so many other cultures spread over 1700 islands is stunning. Borobudur (pictured here) is in our opinion one of the top 3 buildings in the world in terms of cultural significance. It is a privilege to have visited.

Art everywhere
Places that in many other countries would be left for pure function, in Indonesia will have a token piece of art added/embedded. From pool-towels that are arranged differently every day to decorations often made of natural materials, it makes life smilier!
We were particularly impressed that the National Museum Indonesia displayed a special exhibition named TATAH. This exhibition is the result of collaboration among various parties, ranging from local government, industry communities, to artists and cultural researchers. The result was like no other wood-based art expo we have ever seen.
